Can You Microwave Tilapia?

Q: When I want to cook something fast and offbeat, I think of a microwaved fish. I used to microwave salmon, sardines, eel, and pike. Now I would like to try to cook tilapia in the microwave. Could you tell me if it is a good idea?

How to Microwave Tilapia?

A microwave oven is a perfect option when you want to cook something extraordinary fast.

The whole process of cooking fish will take you less than 15 minutes.

You can cook both fresh and defrosted tilapia.

The pieces of the carcass should be equal in size.

If they differ a little, place the big pieces near the walls of the dish, whereas the smallest pieces should go in the middle.

The process of microwaving tilapia requires covering the dish with a baking film or lid.

Do not salt tilapia before microwaving. You will sprinkle the salt when the dish is ready to serve.

If you salt tilapia before putting it in the microwave, it will give out too much juice, get dry and lose its taste.

If tilapia is ready, you will be able to easily separate it with the fork, and the flakes will become opaque.

Microwaved Tilapia With Rice

Ingredients:

  • Tilapia fillet – 600 g
  • Cheese – 150 g
  • Onion – 1 pc
  • Rice – 1 glass
  • Lemon – 1 pc
  • Cream 20% – 50 ml
  • Parsley or dill
  • Any fish seasoning
  • Salt

Preparation:

Rinse the rice and pour 2 cups of boiling water, leave for half an hour.

You may also let the rice soak in cold water overnight, then the dish will cook very quickly.

Give preference to the round grain rice that is prepared fast.

Prepare the fish. Unfreeze it in the microwave if needed, and cut.

Gently grate the fillet with the seasoning.

Squeeze the juice out of the lemon and pour the lemon juice on tilapia.

Peel the onions and cut into thin half-rings.

Take a microwave-safe pan, put onions, add a few spoons of vegetable oil and put in the microwave for 2-3 minutes at 800-900 Watt.

The main thing is to watch that the onion is not burned.

Then add the rice to the onions together with the water in which it was soaked and cook in the microwave for 10-12 minutes at full power.

If the rice has been soaked overnight, then it can be ready in 5 minutes, so you need to monitor the readiness of rice.

Now you can lay the fish fillet on the rice bed.

Cover the pan with a lid and put in the microwave for 4-5 minutes.

During this time, the fish should become white.

Before taking the dish out of the microwave oven, you need to let it stand for a few minutes, and then check its readiness.

Grate cheese on a large grater.

Salt the fish and rice, sprinkle with cheese and a little cream and put back in the oven for just a few minutes to melt the cheese.

Finely chop the greens and sprinkle on top of the finished dish.

If there is no cheese and cream, you can use a little butter and breadcrumbs.

In this case, the pan does not need to be covered with a lid, when placed in the microwave oven.

If you take 2 times more products than indicated in the recipe, then the cooking time is approximately doubled.
