Can You Microwave Sausages?

Q: When people ask us if sausages can be cooked in a microwave, we gladly answer they can. The only thing is that you have to follow the right procedure.

How to Cook Sausages in a Microwave?

You can either cook your sausages whole or cut into pieces. Here, we have decided to cook it in pieces. For this cooking process, you will have to do the following:

  • Take a deep microwave-safe dish.
  • Pour 1/2 cup of water in it.
  • Add the pieces of sausage.
  • Cover the dish but don’t forget to leave some room for the steam to come out while cooking.
  • Cook it for about 4-5 minutes on mid-to-high temperature, depending on the strength of your microwave.
  • Open the microwave and check if the sausages are properly cooked – there is not supposed to be any pink parts.
  • If the sausage is not yet cooked properly, return the bowl in the microwave for 1-2 more minutes of cooking.

How to Cook Whole Sausages in a Microwave?

It is also possible to cook your sausages whole, without cutting them into pieces. Here, you have to poke your sausages with a fork (or a needle) at a few places before cooking, or simply cut them a bit with a knife.

This should be done because some sausages tend to explode at the high temperatures, so to avoid this, it is better to make that holes in them to let the heat enter inside them.

Then you should take a microwave-safe bowl and place (not more than) 3 sausages in it. Pour about 1/2 cup of water in a bowl and cook them for about 4 minutes at the medium temperature.

This process may vary depending on the type of the sausages you have, so sometimes it is possible to cook them without adding water.

You should carefully read the label on the product since some companies give you the precise instructions what to do when you microwave their sausages.

How to Grill Sausages in a Microwave?

There are those microwaves which have a built-in grill and they are so useful when you feel like eating something grilled. There you can grill sausages, but also burgers, steaks, fish, toast, and similar types of food.

First, you take your sausages and place them on a grill. Set your microwave at the temperature you like, which will depend on your preferences – how brown your food should be according to your taste.

These microwaves usually have the button which says ‘grill’, so you should press that.

The cooking should last about 5 minutes, but it depends on the temperature you have chosen. If you are not sure about the temperature, then start with low temperature for 5 minutes.

If the sausages still aren’t at your liking after that time, you can always continue the grilling process for a few minutes more.

How to Cook Frozen Sausages?

For this purpose, you will need:

  • Four pieces of paper towel
  • Microwave-safe dish
  • 4 frozen sausages

You should take a microwave-safe dish and place four pieces of paper towel on it. Then put the sausages on the paper towel. Heat them at the high temperature for about 3 minutes.

It is advisable that you check your sausages every minute. That means you should open the microwave and take the plate out, to be sure that the temperature is not too high.

You could burn your sausages if your microwave is too strong, so you better take pauses every minute just to be sure.

Other option would be to cook it at medium for 2 minutes, then open the microwave to check the sausages. If everything is OK with the sausages, your microwave should be then set at the high temperature and you should cook your sausages for another minute.

One thought on “Sausages

  1. I use my microwave a lot. I am a single man, no kids, and I work a full time job with a part time one on top of that. I really don’t have time to cook or anything. I was wondering if it makes a difference for frozen/raw breakfast sausages. They are cheaper when buying them uncooked vs buying them precooked as breakfast meals.
