Can You Microwave Lamb?

Q: Many people are not sure if they can microwave lamb but, believe it or not, this can be easily done. Let’s see how.

How Can I Microwave Lamb?

First of all, your lamb has to be thawed completely. Do not use frozen lamb!

For the cooking process in a microwave, you will need a large microwave oven bag. Place your lamb in the bag.

You should mix 1/4 cup of plain flour, 2 tsp of brown sugar, 1 tsp of mustard, crushed 1 clove of garlic, 2 teaspoons of Worcestershire sauce, 1/4 of barbecue sauce with water.

This mixture has to be poured over the lamb and also add some vegetable mixture. Then you should tie the bag tightly with a strip and cut at least two holes in it near the tie. This is to let the steam out of the bag.

The cooking process should last for about 25 minutes at the high temperature.

Even after you turn the microwave off and take the bag with the lamb out of the microwave, the cooking in a bag will last for another 10-15 minutes.

This is why you should not open the bag for another 20 minutes after you have taken the bag out of the microwave.

After 20 minutes, the cooked lamb can be served.

Can We Roast Lamb in a Microwave?

Yes, we can! First of all, you should defrost your lamb completely – if you use it frozen, it won’t cook evenly. We suggest you first use your microwave to defrost the lamb and then you could start cooking.

The other option would be to leave the lamb overnight in your refrigerator to let it defrost spontaneously on its own.

Prepare your favorite sauce and add some herbs and spices to the lamb.

Then take a microwave-safe baking dish and place the rack on it. Cover the rack with wax paper and set your microwave at medium power.

If you decide to set the microwave at the high temperature, it may give you the unevenly cooked meal, so it is always better to cook your meat at the medium temperature even a couple of minutes longer.

It is advisable that the cooking lasts for 40- 50 minutes in total, but first you should set your microwave at 20 minutes. Then open the microwave and cover the lamb with 2 pieces of wax paper. Then cook the lamb for another 20 minutes.

After total 40 minutes, take the meat out, check its temperature with a meat thermometer. If the temperature is not even or if it is lower than 65-70 degrees Celsius, then you should cook your meat 10 minutes longer.

Special Recipe for a Meal With Lamb Chops from a Microwave

For the preparation of this meal you will need:

  • 4 quartered medium-size potatoes with skin
  • 1/4 cup of butter
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp chopped garlic
  • 8 lamb chops
  • salt
  • juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 1 tbsp dried Rosemary leaves
  • 3/4 cup of water
  • 3 tbsp Green Peppercorn sauce mix

First, you should mix lemon juice, Rosemary, and salt and pour this mixture over the chops of lamb placed in a microwave-safe bowl. Place the bowl in the microwave and cook it for about 10 minutes at the medium-to-high temperature.

Two minutes before the meat is ready to your liking, you should pour the Green Peppercorn sauce mix over it and return it in the microwave for 2 minutes more.

Mix potatoes with butter, chopped garlic, and Worcestershire sauce. Add some salt and white pepper to it and place it in the microwave-safe dish. Place the lid on the bowl but there has to be some room for the steam to come out.

Cook the potatoes at the medium temperature for about  5 minutes until they are completely cooked. Remove the dish with potatoes from the microwave and serve together with the meat but don’t remove the lid from the potatoes until the meat is ready to be served.

You don’t want your potatoes to be cold when served.
